Default Wheels still rubbing on arches :(

Ok so posted a while ago about this since then I adjusted the bc's so the gap was bigger between the arch and wheel, unfortunatly it didn't clear up the problem..
So today I finally had enought an raised it another 8mm in the pissin rain as enough is enough, now I'm fuming as I have a huge gap and its STILL rubbing after the re raise..

Now this is just with me in the car and hitting resonable size pot holes / bumps which I try my best to avoid but as we all no there s always one that catches you out..

Current set up :

Bc br coilovers / set to full hard / appox 2" gap between top of tyre and arch..

18" Inovit redlines with 215/35/18 tyres

Is there a possibility that the spring preload is to week or just the spring need to be harder ...

Any thoughts welcome

Thinking maybe the springs are weakest they do in there range iirc maybe I'm gonna have to have new springs..... Or if I adjust the preload of the spring will this make a diffrence ??

Is it definately rubbing on the arches and not somewhere else - I'd be surpised if a 2" gap could be compressed under normal loads

I'm in the same boat, but what else can it be hitting .. I will get some pics up tomoro of the clearance.... Surely its not hitting the coilover but apart from that there is nothing else..

Look at the tyres to see where it's catching, it shou;d be quite obvious. I've got a newage with oversize tyres and a 50mm drop and even with some extreme driving it never even gets close - I'm running about ET36 at the rear with the spacers fitted

Rubbing outer edge, its very obvious I can see the rub marks on the tyres on both rear sides, sorry shoud have stated earlier

Could it be preload issue on the springs, I mean if I do them up more will it creat less travel ?

They will travel less with more preload but the ride will also become very hard. 2" is a long way to travel regardless unless the springs are shot

I'm running 225/35x18 on ET51 and mine don't hit the arch lips, but the front did touch the inner plastic wheel arch liner on the front very slightly on a very tight corner with a large mid-bend compression (it's quite a nasty one). This was running Tein S-techs.

Since changing springs to STi Pink and getting another 0.3-0.5 Deg negative camber (running near to 1.5 now), the problem has gone away.

On the rear with the same Tein S-Tech the tyre hit the top of the inner arch (not the wheel arch lip) on the Karosell in Germany. So the wheel fully compressed into the wheel arch clearing the wheel arch lip by microns (well it actually vey very slightly touched the laquer on the wheel).

You'd be surprised how much movement there is.

I would suggest your problem is the spring rate, bump stop lengths or even the ET45 offset.

Hi Scott..

Yess agree I think its a spring rate issue, going to have a alloy off tomorrow just to confirm the numbers on the springs and then contact bc direct... There just seems to be to much travel in them Which is stupid as the car can barley hold 1 person without it rubbing

Have you tried jacking up just the wheel? put the jack under the rear wishbone to push the wheel up into the arch?

Use blocks of wood etc on the rear arm and give that a go, should give you more of an idea what exactly its catching on.

Also the spring rates will be etched into the flat part of the very end of the coil spring, so you will probably have to remove the spring to see it. Unless once the car is jacked up off the chassis you can lift the spring and its etched on the bottom. If you have helper springs your buggered lol
