Default Battery relocation cable

Afternoon all!

Need to order some cable for my battery relocation and wondered what size cable people have used?

I was looking at 25mm 170A cable but someone said that might not be enough so wondered what others had used and where they got it from?

Thanks!

Adam

Loads here, up to 300A, use the thickest if it's a long run, to avoid volts drop.

Thanks Alcazar!

The car is 4.4m long, allowing for cable hiding etc and that's from bumper to bumper, I'm guessing 5 metres will do it but will 6 metres of each to be sure. I'll get 40mm to be safe

You will only need 1 cable to go from front to rear, just bolt earth cable to chassis next to battery

I used 5m of this for the live plus an inline fuse near the battery.

Pages 4 and 5 of my project thread show most of my relocation

Cheers, I should do a how-to thread as I really struggled to find one when I did this and in hindsight it was an easy job

Thanks Jon. I've ordered that cable so thanks for that.

I've looked through your project thread but a how-to would be brilliant......inline fuse size, where you earthed it, connection box in the engine bay etc.

Thanks!

Car is in bits at the moment so ideal for some photos, I'll get one done in the next day or 2

I found that one over-complicates the whole process with brazing joints and so on - mine turned out a lot easier

Not sure I would use that stuff, it's mostly aluminium which is lighter, but nowhere near as good a conductor as copper.

I would have stuck with 40 sq mm copper.

AND I would have run an earth lead back to the original position too. Scoob bodywork is renowned for being poor for earth.

There is no resistance on that cable at 5m - I tested it with my multi-meter. Also, I've earthed it on one of the rear seat mounts to keep the earth run short. I would never consider a 5m earth line. Again the PD between the various earth points around the car, including the original point to the battery, is zero as I would expect with zero resistance shown across the points too.

If you say so...except that I assume you've used a multimeter to measure the impedence?

Resistance - I don't know why I said impedence.

My experience of poor earthing issues with subaru's has been the cabling they install degrading and corroding so I've replaced a few of my earth wires and will also be adding some extras soon.
