Default Long and short of it!!!

Been wanting to ask this question a while but thought it a bit dumb.. but hey ho what the hell!!

what is the actual difference when a advert states the engine is a long or short engine.

Is it to do with having or not having the ancillaries and inlet?

there done now!!! let the flaming begin... or the sensible answer which ever you feel fit to give...
