Default Icv cleaned, still revving!!!!!!

Had the Icv apart twice now off my blob sti after the car started annoyingly revving by itself whilst changing gear, I've had it off the second time today and meticulously cleaned it, not a speck of dirt,

It has helped a little, doesn't do it at all under heavy load, but driving around town it is apparent especially around circa 3k rpm

Is there something else I'm missing that might be causing this or is it time for a new Icv

Cheers

A dirty MAF can cause that issue, so can the boost control solenoid, give them a clean.

Did you replace the rubber gasket.
Once removed they never fit again and need replacing

Yeah replaced the gasket for a new one, I've cleaned the maf, that was a bit dirty, heard that you shouldn't try cleaning them though, not sure if this is accurate,

Checking for vacuum or beast leaks, would have to do some research on that one, bit unsure which ones to check for,

So it probably isn't the Icv then?

How much is it over revving by? As i find mine does this as well. Will be pulling idle control valve apart at somepoint over crimbo if i can get hold of the seal in time.

I did my MAF and that helped the Issue, but still no completely gone.

How did you clean it btw?

It does over rev quite considerably at times, I've cleaned the Icv with not a speck of dirt left using brake/clutch cleaner and the problem still exists so my next protocol is the boost solenoid as suggested earlier, does anyone know if connecting the green plugs applies for my model, if anyone can point me in the right direction on how to clean it properly will be much appreciated.

I did mine the other day mate. Really easy job. I shall assume you know where your solenoid is located.....

Un-bolt the bracket so you can move it around, take the pipes off and make a mental note of which pipe goes where!!

Nows the time to break your back! head under the drivers side dash youll see the 2 green connectors obvisouly not connected, make the connection and youll hear the fans revving the fuel pump going and also your solenoid clicking....once you switch the iginition on..

Spray your cleaner into one of the holes and what i did was hold some tissue below the other hole to catch any dirt and not to make a mess!

Then just do everything in reverse and jobs a goodun :-)

Surprisingly mine was already spotless, so a lot of my issues where coming fro ma dirt maf, but mine does rev when changing gear.... never any more than 500 revs but i want to see if i can sort it!

So my ICV is next on the list..... see how we get on with that.

I dont think the boost control solenoid could cause that mate, iv had a failed one on my car and all it did was overboost and underboost, nothing wrong with cleaning it though with a bit of carb cleaner, i think your problem lies elsewhere.....

maf sensor, o2 sensor, split hose somewhere after maf

I just marked it up first so I knew which line went where before taking it off, then I connected 2 wires to the connections at the bottom, put one on battery -and touched the other to the battery + to cycle it while spraying in carb cleaner, did until clean.

When I took the Icv off I removed the black plastic connector fixed by security fixings which uncovered a shaft like mech which turned the spindle mechanism inside the Icv, all seemed ok and the spindle clicked back into position after each turn,

As an enthusiast enjoying working on my car in my spare time I may have missed something, it's bugging me that I can't solve it and don't want to be defeated!!!

It's been a while since I've been able to look at my over revving issues but I've had a chance and have had no joy, I've basically changed the Icv, cleaned the maf, cleaned the boost solenoid but still over revving, I've looked at some of the hoses etc but not sure if I'm looking at the right thing would anyone be able to help, I was thinking of purchasing a coolant/ancillary hose kit, do you think this May solve my problems
Cheers

Get your inlet system smoke checked. Aftermarket dump valve fitted? Vacuum leak is most likely

Standard recirc valve, so I guess it's got too go to the garage to check for vacuum leaks?
