Default rotated inlet mani

hi all been researching quite a lot on this subject and iv found that a Carl Davey alternator bracket can be used? is this a straight bolt on? anything else needed? what has to be removed/cut away?

is this an absolute nightmare? or easy enough? lol I have never tried it before and its confusing me

full race give step by step instructions but seems abit of a pain to do it that way and pretty expensive

http://www.full-race.com/articles/su...ld-install.php

what is the best way to do this?

Callum Carl Davey does not make them anymore Alyn at ASPerformance has taken over his role on making these bits I believe.I have one fitted on my car and it's a straight bolt on bit of kit.

As above Alyn from ASPERFORMANCE can supply you with the bracket to allow you to reposition the alternator but you still need to change your pipe work to your intercooler, depending on how you route your pipe work and what model Impreza you own you most proberly have to lose your aircon if you have the unit fitted on your car,but I think if done properly it gives another look in the engine bay and a shorter pipe run especially with some front mount intercooler pipe work.I will be doing it on my own rebuild but it's not really a major problem as it's a ground up rebuild, and as I'm already going rotated turbo I would have had to change and reroute my pipe work anyway,it's a mod that I personally think is not needed but if you want it done then go for it,Just to continue I just spotted your car model so aircon would most proberly need removing and new size belts purchased, but that's not really a major problem.SJ.

so its just a matter of me buying the alt relocation bracket/s, fitting them, turing the inlet around and making ic piping? that's all that needs done? I don't really mind removing my a/c

is there anything that needs to be done with the tb? anything needing buffed or cut? whats the part number of the shortened belt?

i really want to do this but i really don't wanna go to do this, strip all the parts down and run into a major problem

You'll need a different Auxillary belt.

Nah, I stole the pic from another thread, as it's a newage.

When mine gets rotated, it'll look a bit redneck, most likely.

Phew! Glad you're not trying to rotate the manifold and TMIC.

A lot of what you need to do, is going to be down to how you want to fit your front mount.

In the pic I stole, I think the intercooler core has been flipped so the pipes come directly under the headlights, and obviously it has a rotated turbo. It also depends on what FMIC kit you buy.

For the belt Callum all I did was used a bit of string to trial fit to get the length for the belt as each instillation is slightly different, the other thing I did on mine was to make a bracket for a cam belt idler to fix to to push the belt a little bit below the intercooler pipework to allow for any rock in the engine as I didn't fancy the belt moving against the intercooler pipework.I will get some pics up for you in the next couple of days just to give you an idea btw is this going to be done on a newage

alright micky.
this is my car that we are looking at, reference the relocating bracket for the alternator.
I had to get the mounting plate and the block which the alternator bolts to made from solid steel as the original alloy one cracked under load.

I do have some pics somewhere but cant find at the moment.

cheers mickyboy

Good shout mate. The only thing that fits easiley is the inlet manifold itself.
Cheers mickyboy.

Who made the FMIC pipework Micky? Also did the pipe running over the manifold not foul the bonnet closing?

There were two Carly Davey alternator brackets. The first one was made purely to allow fitment of a small lightweight race alternator. This bracket was superb and did not deform or have nay issues.

The second had a sliding adjustable aspect which allowed fitment of a standard alternator and a small race alternator. There are some reports of this one deforming very slightly and causing very minor damage to the belt.

The bracket Alyn has made is not like either it is Alyn's own design and is superb and does not suffer from these issues and it is designed to work with a standard Subaru Alternator

Some pictures below of Alyn's kit on my engine during mock up.

Some other pics that show it fitted with the small Denso type Alternator and some of the actual kit.

Assuming your car is a newage then the manifold simply needs turned, you will need to lose the air con tho. You will also have to have custom intercooler pipework made up. You may also find that the TPS wiring may be too short, not 100% sure as I am rewiring mine from scratch but the TPS plug is moved further away from the original position. It may be possible to reroute it but worth bearing in mind.

Arch mine is the 2nd type when I fitted it and checked everything there does seem to be a bit of downward movement on the alloy plate when you push down on the alternator so I have been up to my local fab shop and got a plate of 10mm stainless so over xmas I will cut out a new plate to match the alloy plate and replace the alloy one

I think that is the issue Paul B had mentioned before but Alyn has solved that issue with his one. The problem With Carl's was the slider plate set up.

I had the second design which was the sliding type. All of which deformed. Carl davey send me out a new mounting plate but i decided to bin it all and have all made from stainless steel. Not had a problem since.

Re routing tps wiring was all i needed to do but that was the least of my worries when everything else around it is no longer in its original position.
