Default Turbo 2000 1999 MAF

Hi all,

Are these worth replacing on a regular basis? Reason I ask is I will be doing a very long journey over the Xmas period and just wondering if best yo do it?

The MAF I have in at the moment is causing no problems. Car runs absolutely fine.

Cheers all

Plus a spare car then while you at it.

It's your choice, but to me that's just, plain mad.

It's not broken!

When I brought my MY00 Uk turbo about 7 years ago I read all about the Maf problem. I replaced it straight away which solved an idle issue but I also fitted a new ICV and to be honest I think it was the ICV at fault. As I had money to burn I replaced the MAF again after about a year even tho the last one seemed fine.... now I havn't replaced it for years and fingers crossed its been fine.

You hear horror stories about them killing engines and not throwing a fault code so you must replace it every year...

I am not sure really. I note that the previous owner of my car had it from new for six years and had a full Subaru service history and it wasn't replaced once in that time.

If you look on ebay you will find new MAF's for about £40. They are not Subaru but from other cars that use the same MAF part. I am curious to try one but worried that it may be slightly different...
