Default 2nd knock sensor placement.

Hi all, as title i want to install a 2nd knock sensor for a knocklink. I have removed the aircon on my v4sti so possibly have a couple of locations. One is on the front of the block but is very tight to the alternator bracket and the other is on the head just the otherside of the headgasket seam. Would the sensor be effective if fitted on to the head? Much more space there and nothing for the sensor to touch. Id have to fabricate a bolt because of the knocksensor hole and the tapped hole on the block and head are larger. Cheers

I thought I read somewhere it should be on the block! But to me it makes more sense to mount it on the head! Although maybe too much noise? will give false readings?!!

Ive done more reasearch and near the combustion chamber is good so near the head gasket makes sense. So i have fitted it there for now. Its on max setting. All lights up if i hit the block with a spanner. So will see how it goes.

Most mappers fix their own sensors to the inlet manifold for the mapping session. Anywhere on the block is good but it's important that it is set up properly ideally by a mapper using det cans.

Thanks for the replys. Ive set it to max and will leave it there. On tick over and a few revs to 4k its quiet so the head noises arnt affecting it. Tap with a spanner and it goes to red. Light taps and i get cautions. See over the next few days how it goes. Got wideband on to see if i get anything if mix leans out etc
