Default hawkeye sti longevity?

Hi im in the market for a hawkeye sti. I had a classic sti before which popped its cogs at 75k miles. I have been subsequently told by a few peopke that the scooby engines are only good for 70k and that the hawkeyes all need a custom map as they have a crappy factory map. So this has sort of put me off ever buying one again as in the real world 70k is **** all. I had tought about an e46 m3 but I want a scooby again!! So are these claims valid or is the hawkeye good for 100+?? Cheers

idiots.

My uncles classic done 150k+ still going strong. Plenty of people are well over 100k with no issues.
The problem comes from poor mods, poor maintenance or both. Saying that the 2.5 doesn't seem to be as reliable as the 2.0 however a quick look about on auto trader turns up loads with 80k+ miles on them.

Get a JDM or forged UK if the Hawkeye is what you are after. Seems to be a fair few Uk 2.5 that have Ring land or Head gasket failure.

Only reason was it was starting to over heat and found out one of the heads went porous so just bit the bullit and forged it, full engine build was over £7g plus, 480BHP 485FtLb Andy Forrest map,

Mines at 76k. Headgasket was done at 55k. Std internals, remapped by Bob Rawle at 70k.

Id say majority have had headgaskets done by now, they are all over 6yr old

No other issues with mine at all

Id say reason they are all for sale between 70-80k is because that is tipping point of what people call a high miler! So most will sell then as 70k doesnt sound as bad as 85-90k people are fickle like that!

Just be thorough on service history, previous owners, garagez etc dont be afraid to ring them up and youll be grand.

Most of them use ridiculous amounts of oil too compared to 2.0's - off which people will immeaditily say oh oh ringlands but even NA 2.5's use serious amounts of oil. It still annoys me the amount mine uses - about 1/2ltr for every 2k mile

never had a 2.5L but had a good few new age 2.0L bugs and blobs and these engines are great never had any issue with any of the 2.0L current one is sitting over 400bhp mapped by andy as well with 81k on the clock and drives superb, get a widetrack blob around 2005-2006 with dccd best of both worlds lower tax bracket and everything a hawk has and abetter engine imo.

It's only the 2.5's. Look for a JDM Hawk or an earlier 2.0 blob or bug.

He was talking about an Impreza Type-R, not a bleedin honda!

You just beat me to it Gambit I was just about to share that very car. Cracking car

I am also thinking of selling my Hawk WRX (not STI). I have owned it from new and just turned 30,000 miles. Full years MOT. It was remapped by JGM

I have a Hawk WRX now at 106,000... still going strong.

although I am regularly informed it doesn't have the power to blow itself up, its very slow and weighs the same as a blue whale

still its my car and I enjoy it!!!!
