Hi guys.
Can 50mm tube be welded to 40mm roll cage tubes ?

Basically I've OMP Bolt In cage fitted and want to ad to it a harnesses bar (between backstays). Thing is that backstays are 40mm and the tube/pipe I have is 50mm.
So question is: Can bigger diameter tube be welded to a smaller diameter tube ?

As long as you notch the 50mm tube tidy, even the difference and your pretty handy with a mig set then yes you could but it wont look as nice as using the same size tube though, if your not that good with a mig then take it to someone who is as your relying on that to hold up in the event of an accident.
I've done the same with my OMP cage in my 205 road rally car but used the same size tube. If we lived near to each other then I'd offer to do it for you with the same size tube.

Hi. A friend of mine who is a professional welder will do it for me. I know it would be better if same diameter pipe used but don't have it ATM and to be honest I'm not sure if I could get it local where I live. I can get it from EBay but again, I've 50mm in the garage so...
Do you know if doing this will be against MSA rules ?
I read Blue Book and apart from minimum dimensions that can be used for roll bar, it doesn't say anything about making such a combination.

I want to have it done as safe and best as possible so I think I'll just order same diameter tube.
