Default Lost boost by 2 3rds, help please

Hi, just got back from ikea and car lost boost. It was mapped to run at a safe 1 bar of boost but gauge always showed slightly higher at around 17psi. After a short blast it kind of backfired and boost dropped to about 6/7 psi and won't go any higher. I can still hear the turbo spooling and waist gait blowing. It's a 53 bugeye, front mount inter cooler, vf65 turbo I think. I've had a quick look around air pipes etc but can't see anything obvious, any advice greatly received, thanks in advance.

Will be a blown pipe somewhere....

And it won't be a vf65 turbo you have.

Thanks mate, might be vf45, can't remember what the fella said was fitted when I bought it. Any common places the pipe blows out?

Well if its making 7 psi then that would be actuator pressure. Check all the small pipes from the boost solenoid and to the turbo/actuator.
If all appear fine then it could be the boost solenoid playing silly buggers.

I had this the other week on my bug, cleaned the maf sensor carefully with a cotton bud and some isopropanol alcohol, but carb cleaner etc will do.

Put it back in and the was ok again after

Just thought I would put a quick update on low boost problem. Got in car this morning, warmed her up and thought I would give a quick blast to check the boost problem and it ran perfect! I had another good look around the hose clips/pipes and couldn't fault them. I have just got some elecsol 41 from work and will give the MAF a clean later. If the problem reoccurs I suppose I will need to look at the boost solenoid. Thanks again for all your advice ;-)
