I have a version 4 type R.

When the car is running the dashboard shows the car is at normal temperature.

After a drive the water reservoir empties it's self. This is weird as there is no leaks. Also when I touch the radiator pipes, the top one is hot and the lower/bottom one is cold, which is very odd.

It's just had a new thermostat fitted, but this doesn't seem to have sorted it ?

Any ideas guys ?

Also there is no oil and water mixing, so don't think it's a dead engine.

You don't get oil and water mixed like you would in a "normal" engine. I had a head go on mine and had no mixing or overheating. I had the coolent system pressurise when the engine was under load, if you hold the top hose and rev the engine can you feel a build up of pressure. Drop on and get a quick sniffer test, won't take long, nice to cross that off the list and narrow it down, the water must be going somewhere

Sounds as if it's airlocked.

The ONLY sure way to de-airlock it is to drain it and refill properly.

DO A SEARCH on here as to how to.

as above airlocks can be a total nightmare to get rid of sometimes, just done a coolant change myself and filled the system slowly from the header tank to turbo hose with a small funnel, takes a while but all seems good so far, also seen it done from the top radiator hose then pushed back on to block quickly then just topped up a little in header tank with no airlocks

That's the way to do it, remembering to have the heaters set to hot all the time.
