Default Knocking engine, does it need a rebuild?

Bit upset, was out in my 99 classic turbo yesterday and it was running great. Just as I pulled up at home I thought it could hear a rattle knocking sound from the engine.

Today I've had a closer look and its definitely making a knocking noise

Sounds like the bottom end based on hearing similar noises on other cars. Are Impreza's know for this?

And what sort of advice is there on fixing it. Is it worth rebuilding the engine or should I be looking for a replacement.

They are known for it yeah, is yours 100% bottom end though?

Fixing is not cheap, its a full rebuild which entail many extra costs. I felt when I rebuilt that I might as well forge while its out.

You could just drop another engine in, but again I thought if I drop another in it could well happen again. (mine went at 50k) ... if engines were cheap it would be worth it but they aren't.

This all lead to me forging in the end.

Anyplaces you can recommend to either get parts or get the motor rebuilt. Thanks.

It could be a worn cambelt tension causing a knocking noise or the front pulley loose - be worth checking them out first before condeming the internals.
