Default strange noise on 2002 bugeye wrx

Hi, can anyone help me please? I am new to the Scooby world. I have a 2002 bugeye wrx uk model. got this strange noise think its coming from engine. the only way I can explain it is sound like a loose pulley or something like that. but it only does it when car is moving! wheel bearings have been checked and they are fine. any ideas please?

would say more of a rattle/grate than whine, gets higher pitch or louder the faster you go. as I said its only when car is moving??

not always. They might not be that loose and just need nipping up.

Engine mounts could be loose, had this on my bug, rattled when moving off, drove me mad.
Would need to be pretty bad to rattle badly during driving though.
Could also be down pipe knocking on gearbox but again that's a slim chance.

A grating typically isn't a good sign - I'd get it to a trusted garage for a closer look.

thanks guys, been told by someone else the noise sounds like the old Peugeots when the clutch release bearing is knackered. and on closer examination I suppose it does a little but with a slight rattle. its not that though because its new and there's no probs with clutch or gears

Clutch release bearing will only make a noise when the clutch is engaged. if you put your foot on the pedal and press to the floor the noise should stop (or at least change a lot)

if its while moving it could be a number of things, have you been launching the car hard? could be front diff on its way out

Yep, that or a drive shaft that's eaten a few splines.
