ported headers will give a little more power and torque with better spool up. rcm will give alot better power and torque gains.

When my existing headers blew at the collector, I didn't want to spend out on the RCM 3-bolters.... Even though they're the best availlable.

Instead I got Harvey's (RIP ) regular 2-bolt GT Spec1 headers with his latest-design tapered trick uppipe.

Just having a dig about
https://www.scoobynet.com/general-te...-for-td05.html

if you look at post 19, harvey(rip) says on a TD05 16G you are taking a step backwards if you fit tubular headers compared with properly ported OE Subaru headers and matched uppipe. the Vf34 isn't that much different from a 16g is it?

- From c.380>on is when you benefit from tubulars. Mine's at 384.

He recommended them upon seeing my car's mods spec (20g, etc).

- Yeah, VF34 and TD05H 16g give similar ballpark bhp when mapped to the max. On average the VF34 prob makes IRO 330-350 and the 16g c.320-340.

VF34 a shade quicker to spool.

- So yeah, stick with ported and polished OEM headers for your VF34. A 2-bolt optimised uppipe would help too. Not to forget heat-wrapping them all.

I opted for harveys ported headers and up-pipe,,but then changed to rcm set up and fetched around 25bhp and 25lbft more on the rcm.this was at around 340 bhp, went through changing different things etc to find no matter what we did the rcm set up was by far less restrictive than ported oe headers.even at that power level there was a very big difference,...car ended up at 385/384 eventually with running the rcm set up.also, there was minimal difference in spool, rcm proved to be the best by quite some margin.

Can't argue with the above, real-world, results!

...So there you go OP, get the RCMs IMO. And you'll be 'future proofed' into the bargain.

It's gotta be a win-win no-brainer!
