I don't know if it is similar to a classic, but i found it easier to remove the whole bumper including the bumper beam. There are 6 x 17mm bolts in the engine bay, 3 next/under the battery and 3 on the other side under the air filter, you can't miss them.
The hard part is finding all the plastic trim fixings in the wheel arches, and the odd screw.
