Default Version 2 motor in ver 3 what's needed???

Hi all just wonderd if anyone can help a mate has just bought a 1997 uk catalunya impreza with the ver 3 style engine with the coil on top it has had a earlier style ver 2 engine fitted complete with inlet etc but the car does not run he bought it as a non runner so just want to know whether it should run or not or whether he needs to fit the later inlet etc was told that it would run for 8 seconds then cut out which may be fuel pump Ecu etc (but wouldn't fire today at all so cant confirm this) so basically any ideas as to best place to start would be good as dont want to waste loads if time if will never run without the original inlet etc etc thanks people

afaik you need to fit the version 3 water cross over pipe and the version 3 inlet to the version 2 engine.

So defo won't run with the older inlet manifold they have made brackets etc to hold coil pack, throttle cable used early intercooler etc but that all I've noticed from a 2 min look at it

Hi people my mate has stripped the inlet manifold of and needs a few bits to start with he needs the air filter and all the pipe work that goes with it an intercooler with correct pipe work for a ver 3 and that's all he knows at the min also does anyone have a diagram/exploded view of the engine/inlet manifold so can see what he is missing and also to help when re fitting to make sure everything goes back correct
