Default HELP !!

I write this thread in desperation and pray that someone can.

My brother and I have entered this years Scumrun Charity Rally and we have a massive problem.

We have a 1997/98 WRX Impreza, when we bought the car back in November the car didnt have a running engine. We bought a recon engine and paid a mechanic to fit it and it is now running. The problem is it sounds like crap and we're not sure if its a timing or mapping problem and the mechanic is stumped (not a subaru specialist. The company that reconditioned the engine put the timing belt and pullies on so we assume this is correct (possibly).

Here's the issue we leave to do a 3000 mile round trip for charity in 3 wks and we are yet to MOT, Tax and PAINT the car. But its running so bad we can't even think about these problems yet. We have so much at stake if the cars not running we wont be going

Please can anyone help we are really desperate

Thanks

Nick

What is the problem in more detail, or is it as simple as it sounds likes there is a problem. Is it driveable, is there power?

Thanks

We havent even attempted to drive it yet as it is running so lumpy. It wont idle properly one minute then it does the next, It back fires and then it doesn't.

We are running a Japspeed 4 into 1 Manifold and a Ball Bearing IHI Turbo as you can tell by the discription we are really in the dark this is my 1st Scooby and Im really shooting in the dark when it comes to problem solving.

The original engine was in bits when we bought the car it was one big jigsaw puzzle with hoses and wires all over the place.

If there was someone local that had the same model and we could look under their bonnet just to check we've got everything plumbed in correctly would be a great help.

so the car hasnt been mapped for the uprated different turbo ?
a wrx should have a TD05,
the timing is easy to check visually if you whip the PS/AC(if fitted) belts off and the Cambelt covers, you should then be able to line it all up to see if its out.
