Default Turbo 2000 OBD2 Connection Error

Hello all,

I recently bought an W Reg Impreza Turbo 2000 and im loving it so far.

A couple of weeks ago I noticed that the ABS light comes on when im at motorway speed, and there has also been a flicker of the Check Engine light once or twice but performance hasn't been affected.

I plugged in 2 separate OBD2 diagnostic devices to see if I could read any codes that may be stored, however I keep getting a Connection Error between the Code Reader(s) and the ECU.

I know these devices work fine as I regularly use them on other vehicles.

Are communication problems a common occurance on these Turbo 2000 models, or is there a specific type of code reader I need for this model?

My OBD2 connector fits fine so im assuiming theres an issue elsewhere.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Otis

Odb2 readers don't work on the classic models, but you can read and reset fault codes using the plugs under the dash

Just had a brief look online, are them some connectors under the steering colums that need to be plugged together in order for my OBD2 port to communicate with the ECU?

Thanks Keljon, Do you have any idea why they have OBD2 connections on the car then?

A few manufacturers started using the connecter pre odb2 but unfortunately didn't make the ecu odb2 compliant so you would need specific diagnostic tools for the car from the dealer

Brilliant, thanks for your help. I will have a look at linking up the connectors under the column when I have some time and will see if this helps me.

I had the same problem today, my Bosch wouldn't contact the ECU systems, apart from i stripped the wires out when track prepping my car, so now i need to work out how to rewire the test mode wires back in lol.

Thanks

Can anyone tell me please where to locate the plugs under the dash to read/reset the error codes?

above the pedals. Normally taped to the steering column

So what was the point in having the OBD2 in place, it's wired up? Does it serve not purpose at all?

Did the Subaru Select Monitor connect via OBD2, there is another connector I think for SSM? I cut mine out and the read/test mode cables though when getting track happy.

I found out that if you earth the read/test mode wires from the ECU it initiates the testing of relays, and the other brings the flashing MIL on, I assume this works but I can't test it until I have an error occur.

Thanks
