Anyone know a good place to have heads skimmed looking to buy a project car which head gasket as gone. Is £750+vat per head which is what scooby clinic want.
Am in the Manchester area.

Thanks in advance for any help in this

Think you may be mixed up, to get 2 heads skimmed is probably 150- 200 pound.
Id say the price you have from SC is to do the complete job and supply parts.. not just skim one head

Yeah my fault it was to do the job i still thought £750+vat was a lot for each head. I can get a fully recon engine for £900 sent to my door.
Is £750+vat a fair price for the heads to be done ?. Am new to scoobs been a vr6 guy for many years.

Who says they want skimming? It's not a given with Scoob heads.

It's not often they need skimming - I always prefer to hand lap the flame face's on the heads and deck.

Can anyone tell me if the engine as lost all compression, would there likely be more damage than just the head gasket. This is going to be a project just wanted to know how much of a can of worms I would be opening

Might have damaged a piston, or burnt or cracked valves.

Only stripping it will tell you.

I paid around £800 to have a pair of heads skimmed, gas flowed, new valve seals, shimmed up, the lot

Sc will be pricing removing engine, fixing the problem and refitting the engine + the fluids... Add parts, gaskets possibly studs and it won't be long adding up to be fair. The lifting out of engine and refit is probably 150-200 on its own??

What version impreza. These good price all you'd need is hand lap them and gaskets
