Default suspected boost leak & baileys bov question

I have just bought a 1998 classic and it has (I think) a boost leak.. 3rd 4th and 5th has very little power and there is a massive hissing sound coming from under the bonnet/dash.
I seem to think its coming from near the turbo as it sound like its near me when driving .
However my friend said it sounds like its near the passenger side confused.com
I cant here a hiss when revving it from under the bonnet.

However I did notice that the baileys bov is open when on tick over....is this normal?

also is there any common places were a pipe breaks of leaks

thanks for looking
Regards Jim

Spray some etha around all the boost pipes while its ticking over, if you have a leak the tick over will rise slightly when it sucks in the etha in

Baileys do have a reputation for being copied. With GREAT care one option would be to plug the hose that the DV connects to and go for a drive and see if the car runs better. When I say great care don't snap the throttle shut unless in an emergency as otherwise you will stall the turbo. That may cause problems.

Got a boost gauge fitted? Check the pipe and connections. Does sound like that dump valve tho

I have just bought an oil pressure, oil temp and boost gauge just waiting for them to arrive
I have noticed when I accelerate softly you can here the hiss changes to a hier pitch (like the turbo spooling up) but its not the turbo ......anyway bigger probs now some pr*ck has tried to brake into it last night by pulling the drivers door glass from the seal
