Default fault code 02 sensor issues?

Recently checked my Ecu for faults on my 2001 classic turbo, found fault 32- wouldn't clear. I've noticed on idle the car is hunting 1-200 rpm and is a little hesitant down low whilst driving also a sooty tail pipe. I haven't had the check engine light though so im just after some advice before I fork out for a new lambda, any help will be highly appreciated
