Default 1998 Starter Motor?

1998 version 4 sti type r

ive never come across a starter motor breaking or on its way out before so just wondering how you can tell if its nakard?

it takes a few seconds longer to start than previous cars although they were newer, still gets there atm but seems reluctant :/

havnt had the car long so i may be paranoid, anyone else had a starter motor go that was previously taking its time to start the engine?

thanks!

Subaru's can have a very laboured start up compared to other cars in my experience , especially if the car is used for short journey's or if the battery/altenator is on the way out

Before suspecting the starter, check that the battery is in good condition, that the oil isn't too thick a grade for the colder weather, and that the thick cable between the starter and the battery is in good condition with no corrosion.

Once you have ensured that all those are OK, have a DECENT auto-electrician check out the starter if the symptoms persist.

What voltage is the battery dropping too on crancking. Another way of checking the battery is to start the car with the headlights ON. If the dim slightly then battery okay if it goes dark either battery needs a good charge or is F'ed.
