Default Engine swap upgrade v4

As need a new lump due to hg gone,, need some advice,, ov a v3 and v4 are pretty much a straight swap over as regards to whole engine,, is there any other version engines that can be used or better choice?

And is there a difference between a wrx engine and sti? if I am going to use my injectors turbo, inlet etc?

surely it would be much less heart ache to pull the engine pop the heads, skim them and replace with MLS head gaskets?

seems a bit drastic to replace engine to cure HG issue ..
