Boost problem
Hi peps I new to this I was wondering if anyone can help me my name is rob.i brought a w reg IMPREZA the other week and basically having boost problems keeps hitting boost cut I looked I to problem. Found it had a manual boost controller but was plumbed into standard boost controller do I ordered a restrictor pill as mine was missing fitting that in pipe just off nipple on turbo took it out and car is spluttering and popping and banging and boost gauge flys round to 1.5 psi so fitted manual boost controller correctly by connecting it to nipple on turbo and to actuator turned it down so car runs at 0.9/1.0 put foot down get to around 5k and spluttering and popping and banging have changed plugs and fuel filter today so all fresh

I have got another I mite give that ago but would that make the boost go through the roof if was faulty like said want to remove manual boost controller and put bk to standard subaru boost solenoid

Hi rob had same problem with my 2001 bug, i replaced my plugs and fuel filter thinking the same, looked at new maf sensor but tried cleaning with brake cleaner first and had no problems since

It's common that the maf sensors get a little clogged up if you have a pod filter or upgraded intake. I had a boosting issue in my bug too and the maf sensor wasn't my problem (still worth checking out though). It could be a boost solenoid issue or an ecu problem like mine. I put in a bleed valve for a temporary fix and It was sorted with putting in an electronic boost controller later on

1.5 psi, think you mean 1.5 bar. For me I would get it in for a diagnostic to see what fault codes are there. Yes this forum is great for help but without proper diagnostics you could be spending a lot of money. Your best option is a rolling road diagnostic as this will high lite the problem and can very easily be repeated to see if fixed.
Agree cleaning the MAF is a good idea as oil deposits can upset it.
