Default Oxidation on FMIC?

I've noticed a slight build-up of the white powdery coat that often affects aluminium in this weather, on the FMIC.
What is the favoured method/product for removing this and then protecting the alloy from further build-up? I remember using a specific acid based liquid in the past and even alloy wheel cleaner but wondered what other people have tried.
I wondered if a spray of WD40 or similar after treatment would help protect the alloy, considering you don't want to put anything on that might insulate the IC.

What I did with my top mount was sand back the corrosion and then polish it up afterwards and protected it with wax and its fine so far over 5 months or so

No, it's the core. It's not corrosion just the powdery oxide that forms.

Unfortunately aluminium oxide is harder than the aluminium itself, so it can be a ******* to remove and will always come back unless you can coat it with something to protect it from the air / elements.

As said, you can probably spray something on to make it look a bit fresher, but the best bet is to paint it from new if you are ok with accepting some slight cooling loss.
