Default Cabin / Roll Cage Painting DIY

What DIY techniques have you all all used if you have painted your cabin / cage youself?

I'm thinking eBay grey primer for £1.30 a can and some high grade grit to finish it off and leave it at that, i don't want to waste money on it, it's only going to get driven properly on track ha.

Thanks

I used hammerite white, applied with a brush. It looks predictably ****, but I don't care as at least it's not rusting, and also it only gets driven to / from track (and occasionally on it).
