Default panel filter

Hi guys I am new to the forum so i thought I would introduce myself along with asking a couple of questions. Im 28 used to be a mechanic but now in IT. I had a rover 220 turbo before this, I realise the sti is a completely different animal.

I picked up my fist subaru this wk a 39000 mile 03 plate sti lovely car been well looked after. Completely standard apart from different back box and a Bailey dump valve.

I may get some kind of performance pack and ecu tek remap in the future. I want to keep the car as standard as possible with just a few light mods.

First questions is panel filter I have been doing a lot of research and reading and it's seems a panel filter is the best option and safest unless going big power and remap. Im thinking of the K&N, also will a Zero Sports Intake Pipe still alow the maf to function properly and is there any advantage over the standard this is the link

http://www.just-subaru.com/my03-05-zero-sports-intake-pipe-79062-0.html

The car came with a Bailey vta dump valve I like the sound but do they run better with a recirculating one, I don't really know the ins and outs but i have read for and against.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Regards Duncan

Cosworth or Pro R Panel filter. Both dry filters, although the Cosworth is not re-useable.

Recirc valve is better.

What about a Do-Luck filter they seem to offer good gains i realise they are a foam filter and foam does not filter as well but they seem to have two layers a fine layer and a thick layer. Does any one have experience with one of these?

Hiya and welcome to Snet Green Cotton are good filters too..they`re reusable, you just have to oil them when you clean them. Recirc valve is better than a dump valve unless you`re gonna stick rally graphics all over it too

Foam is fine however the DO Luck isnt great at filtering. Stick to pipercross, cosworth etc

The Subaru Pro R filter is foam and made by pipercross, its re-usable too
