Red face SUMP REPLACMENT PROBLEMS

Hi all,

Im having a nightmare getting a new sump for my 2.5 wrx 2006 hawkeye, the sump i have taken off i will attach a picture to this post.

The problem i have got is i got a sump from scooby technics in fleetwood which the said was right but when put up to block it catches at the back of the engine.I have even ordered one main dealer and same problem? Maybe car has differant engine? Also to add that the sump plug on mine is on the left looking from front , other sump is on the right.

Please help

What is it catching on? Have you tried fitting it from the back first, take a pic of the underneath where the sump is going to be fitted, It might be catching on the pipe?

Does it have a 2.0l engine fitted, look on top of the block left hand side, It should say EJ20 or EJ25, If it says 20, there is your problem, You`ll need a 2.0l sump.

There's only the oil drain tube at the back of the sump thats got to locate into its hole in the block, these can on new sumps be slightly out of line, but should still locate, putting the alignment of the bolt holes out.
Have you fitted the same pickup pipe as was fitted with the original sump in the picture ?

this is what the correct item should be on your car, assuming its a 2.5 engine

Is that for the 2.0l ? The car seems to torque for a 2.0l turbo tho m8 and why have they sold it as a 2.5 ?

That sump Pictured belongs on a 2.5 engine, Ideally thats what should be fitted to your engine originally. unless someone has changed it to the 2.0 sump and pickup pipe

well to be honest, Its a known problem that the 2.5 has problems with cracking oil pickup pipes so Often owners have been known to fit a 2.0 pickup pipe and sump to get around this issue, never tried it for myself as yet

Wink

The sump had i slight crack in it and had been repaired with some putty stuff plus it was leaking from the back , hope it is just a 20l sump as will get onto scooby technics in the morning or subaru, that pic was taken while cleaning the block so maybe it was just that? We have been told the pistons have been forged and had a few G spent on it.
