Default Main beam & dipped wrong way round on my bug

Lots of people have been flashing me a night

Turns out my main beam and dipped beam are the wrong way round

The car has had some 'black' surround bug head lights fitted in the past, is it just a case of swapping the bulbs round?

Your main beam and dipped headlight are seperate bulbs on a bugeye I beleive same as my blob, I would be surprised if your main beam is in upside down as the hb3 high beam bulb has 3 lugs on it spread at different distances so should only go in 1 way, I suppose you can force it in but you would more than likely know it was wrong when putting it in due to it probably being extremely tight.

Headlight bulb should be h1 and will have a flat surface on the one side with kind of like a half moon on the other, again that should only fit one way but they will go in upside down but the retaining clip will probably be tight if so, simply take the bulb out and turn it around, if you shine a light in to the back of the headlight you will see where the bulb should fit against the reflector, it will be a nice snug fit

Bulbs are supposed to be H4s but they won't locate, 9007s have been used with spade conectors and wire to the original fitting
I have no idea why! Could my lights be LHD imports from the states?

Sounds like it.

If you have the wrong bulbs in the beam pattern will be all over the place anyway.

I cant see the front of your lights very well but dont quote me but i thnk you have the Uk300 lights fitted and they have been retrofitted

On the standard bug there is a 3 in connector for the high/low bulb but on the projectors you have separate bulbs for high / low.

Sounds like the high and low are the wrong way round and from the top of my head on the standard 3 pin plug looking from the rear is right=live, centre=dipped, left=main

your fairly local to me so if you get stuck i can try help

Thanks for the offer, I had some std headlights delivered and fitted today and passed the MOT

Tuesday I bought a set of aftermarket headlights from a bloke at Barnard Castle, I asked before if they were road legal for the MOT he said yes, so I drove down paid cash had them fitted and they weren't legal at all, I phoned for my cash back and he said tough ****!
So I now have 2 sets of lights for the bin

So after a bad few days I'm MOTed for another year
