Please help
Right start from the beginning, 1st up I ran the car without the dash in and it drained the battery in minutes so put it down to faulty alternator so changed that no different,
I later was told it was because the clocks are not conneted so I have reconnected the clocks turned on ignition and just the oil light and check light come on,
The battery was so dead i used a set of jump leads and the car started 1st time and ran ok till we disconnected the leads and it just died again everything works rev counter, back lights so must be connected correctly, could it just be down to a totally dead battery andwhy the battery light does not come on ?.

Can't get to run long enough to check but I know the alternator is good as its of a friends car, Put battery on charge now and try in the morning, Just wondered why the battery light didn't come on was it due to the fact I was jump starting the car ? Rather than using the battery it self.

The battery light not coming on is indicating a problem in the alternator or the wiring to it. (assuming you have some power in the battery to operate the ignition and power the bulb at least)
What model of subaru is it any way? Can't much help if I don't know what car it is?
edit - If you get the car running with jump leads and the car cuts out when you take the leads off I can safely say that the charging circuit has a problem. Alternator itself or the wiring to it.
