Right this will seem completely foreign and strange to you lot on here what i am doing with a subaru engine, here it is.
Its a EJ255 from a 2007 WRX GB270. BUT, i have stripped it all electronics, binned the ECU and turbo, and have supercharged it using an Eaton M90 and two SU carbs. Running on a full MSD distributor type ignition system.
My question is, as i am not using the variable inlet valve timing, when it is disconnected, where will the cams go to. Will that stay at a set advance or retard position, will they be at 0 degrees or will the cam just fluctuate to wherever it wants to go.
The problem i am having is when get the engine running, it runs for around ten seconds everytime and then backfires, but we are certain that is firing when the intake valves are open. We are still very early in the stages of trying to get this running, so there is a list a mile long of possible reasons for this.
Here's a picture for inspiration
