Default Engine rebuild at 80k - worth just renewing bearings/rings?

I have never rebuilt an ej20 (done plenty of others) but was thinking that as my engine has done 80k it may well be worth stripping it and supplying it with new rings and crank bearings along with an uprated oil pump. There are no knocks or other bad sounds from the engine so is it worth doing?

Thoughts please?

Mmmmm on the one hand, if It ain't broke don't try to fix it, but on the other it's cheaper to rebuild before it fails rather than after.

Unless you're going for more power leave as is. My car has about 78k, now running circa 430bhp on vpower or 470bhp with meths. Not going to touch it unless I hear the big ends starting to go.

Preventative maintenance is a good thing but remember it will be a set of big end shells at about £130, a set of headgaskets about the same, oil pump, timing belt, head bolts and a few other gaskets. Turns into an expensive excersice very quickly.
I had considered it but bear in mind a good used sti 8 long block can be had for around £800

As above. Unless there is another problem like headgaskets, or the engine is coming out for some reason, leave well alone.

On all the cars I have ever had big ends let go it has meant a new crank or at least a re-grind and bearings. Is the EJ20 any different? I'm asking if I get warning sounds, literally, can I get away with a re-shell without it damaging the crank?

Ok, decided it's getting stripped and rebuilt. I can get ACL bearings, new rings and a gasket set for £320 all in using all my original parts. That's way cheaper than letting it go bang first.
