Default Air Con issues

Hi there, got a 1998 Impreza STI IV, JDM.
My air con has recently stopped working, on investigation:

compressor clutch is kicking in, and the fans spin for about 10 secs, then it goes off.
Approx 30 secs later, it trys again and just repeats this cycle.

I re-gassed - made no difference.

During the 10 seconds of operation, the pipe with the H valve on it gets hot to touch, and once operation stops it gets cold

There is SO much moisture in the cabin I cant see where im going and it wont clear.

Please help!

You say re-gassed did you vac the system down first then add the right weight of refrigerant or just add some more? As too much is as bad as not enough. My AC on my bug died had it checked and re-gassed with a dye as no gas in it. Still did not work, so tested pressure no gas in it so ripped the system out. Weight loss of about 27 kg on a fat bugeye.

You say the compressor cuts in, cooling fans run then the system cuts off? And you have only added gas, it's sounds like its over pressuring, could be a number of things. You need to get the system vacuumed and the right amount of gas added and go from there.
I don't think the amount of gas is your problem but the basics need to be right to get the right diagnosis.
You may find you have a blockage in a pipe, fans are unable to cool the refidgerant, incorrect gas level.
Get the basics sorted and let us know what happens

Did you recover the gas to see wether the correct amount was in the system? You will get a hot side on the system when the ac is operating. If the gas level is correct there could be a number of possibilties, pressure switch, compressor, expansion valve, restriction or an electrical problem, relay, ecu, wiring.
As above you need to look at the basics first.

Sounds normal to me, the air con on both my impreza and forester work this way.

Are you sure you haven't got a leak, that would make the car steam up badly?
