Default Uphill 3rd Gear Turbo Drops then kicks back in

Hi All,

Newbie here, only had my scooby a couple of days, it is a (04 WRX with an uprated Turbo) however today i noticed i was going up a hill full wack and noticed when i hit 3rd Gear the boost kicks in and when it hits around 5k rpm the boost drops then kicks back in again a second later??

Anyone have any ideas? Still havent took the car on the motorway yet, so im hoping i dont have any problems with turbo in 5th :s

Thanks

Sounds Like your experiencing fuel cut. How full was the tank with fuel ?? anything around 1/4 of a tank you can suffer fuel surge on hard cornering or uphill climbs on full tilt

or it's sensed an over-boost situation & cut the fuel to save itself

Hi Rob,

Thanks for your reply - fuel is half a tank - also just took it on the motorway and its them same in 4th and 5th - the 5th gear is alot more of a miss fire and you can kind of hear a whine while its missing?

also in 4th and 5th the misfire starts from around 4k

the 3rd gear isnt everytime.

Pretty new to turbos myself, but I'd say it sounds like a boost control problem. I'd get a £7 vag-com cable off ebay and do some logging using Romraider or similar, that or get your friendly local mapper to take look for you.

Hi all,

Took it to ScoobyWorld in nottingham, the guy had a quick look and found the Waste Gate pipe was off

Put a new end on as the one which was on was looser than a **** stars box!

Seems ok now, apparently could take a few days for my ECU to pick back up and get a decent boost back
