Default possible oil pump failure

Gents,

Im back to owning my 2nd impreza, Its an Sti Type r V3 with a knackered engine (purchased with known fault).

I was informed that the bottom end has gone, ive literally spent 5 minutes on the semi stripped engine which was supplied and here is my question.

When removing the oil pump relief valve should the valve come out with ease?

I have the spring and cap in hand but cannot get the valve out, granted ive only tried with a magnet but should this be easy to get out, baring in mind the oil pump is still attached to the car?

Many thanks, Oh and a project thread is to come

Lewis

Any bearing debris in the oil can jam the PRV in the bore of the oil pump - it might just be the oil Stiction holding the PRV in place, try some penetration oil or brake cleaner to 'break' the bond.
