Default EJ20 vs EJ22 vs EJ25

My goal for my project is 450 whp, which engine is the best base to achieve this?

I would assume the EG25 since it's got the extra capacity but I see allot of people with deep pockets using the EG20, of course the EG22 is closed deck but I imagine they're quite thin on the ground now?

Hi there

You are probably mean EJ,not EG(EG33 has been found only at SVX and same engine using Andy F or Simon@JGM)

450atw is something like 550-600hp at flywheel.

2.35L(EJ22T) will be best choice if you are looking at 550-600hp,blocks you can buy them here, but prepare pay fro them from £1000

But good option can be 2.1L if you are looking for 550hp(flywheel),with right turbo and engine should be OK

Depends what turbo you are planing to run, what other mods you are planning too etc.

Just seen your other post regarding tuners, If you have an overall budget of 15k, The 2.2 is prob a stretch too far if you are going to do a 2.35 conversion and do it right, The 2.5 does have reliability issues for higher boost levels, My opinion would be a CDB 2.0 with a 2.1 stroker kit, But ask the tuners when you are phoning them.

Will do, I just wanted to be a bit more informed before having the discussion.

2.1 closed deck built from a 2.0 would be safe with the right bits and builder and 'reasonable' money, 2.35 built from a 2.2 CDs would be even better but pricey.

2.5 pinned or closed deck inserts would be an option (only safe around the 450 mark without pinning/closing) but arguably gives a better road car due to torque.

My 2.5 forged build was around the 4k mark with AVCS heads and my dead 2.0 WRX lump in part-ex and is happily running 440 with more to come when the headers are replaced.
