Default Harvey Smith Up Pipe - My Findings

Just thought I would share my results from fitting one of Harveys 3 Bolt Up-Pipes.

I was going to Scoobyclinic for a Meth map, so thought I would also fit the new up pipe to see if it really did what it is suppose to.
My main reason was to aid spool, as I the SC54 is quite a large turbo to run on a 2.1.

Here are the results anyway: Blue line is WITH Harveys Up-Pipe, both on V-Power

With Meths:

Cheers

Thanks

The 2nd graph is incorrect, as they were both running 1.9bar, so not sure what's happened there :S

That's an impressive improvement in spool. It must be very noticable on the road?

The standard up pipe which came with the RCM headers.

Yes John, Very

I'm really pleased with it. I was dubious that it would work, but thought I had to try it or I would always be thinking 'What If'. Pleased I did now

Just the standard size as it's a stock location turbo.

Great result Chris, am i reading that graph correct nearly a 500rpm gain in spool?

Would you see that much gain on a smaller turbo aswell?

Yep, approx 500rpm earlier spool. The turbo does spool earlier on the road too.

I think on a smaller turbo it would definitely spool approx 500rpm sooner too. Harvey will have more data to back this up though.

I gained about 500 rpm on a Harvey up-pipe and ported headers, he certainly knows his stuff!

Hi,

please come and drive my car, its got an SC54 Billet on there and its far from laggy,

Remember that one is a 2.1 which we all forget is a mere 5% cc increase over a 2.0 ltr.

On a 2.33 or a 2.5 these things spool like f*ck.

cheers
Kev

Hi Kev

Thanks for offer and agreed this is on the 2.1L.

On 2.33-2.35L or 2.5 must this turbo spool really nicely

Well done Chris. I think you will agree the improvement in spool and torque right across the rev range were in line with or better than I said they would be when you bought the uppipe. What was a pleasant bonus was the additional BHP.
Different engines, specs and turbos will react differently but generally spool improvements are 350 to 500 RPM on either the 3 bolt header sets or the forerunner 2 bolts of the Gruppe S type with clear torque gains right across the board. Some users report more than 500 RPM spool gains but I have not been present for before and after verification.
