I have managed to cross thread one of the fittings on my Mocal oil cooler, are they welded (soldered ?) into the cooler ?
They do have what appears to be a 27mm 'hex nut' where the fittings go into the cooler but a quick attempt to remove them with a spanner and 'moderate' force didn't seem to make an impression ?
I hope I can salvage it as the identical replacement is £150 and the threads did seem very soft !

Mocal coolers don't have changable fittings, its one piece core & fitting, if you have tried to undo it its probably scrap anyway, as most failures on these coolers happen when tightening the pipe fitting onto the cooler without having another spanner supporting the cooler fitting.

Great !
The threads must be made of cheese, only went on two turns before I realised it did not feel right.
After that I could not get it to 'start' properly even after cleaning up the threads as best I could.
Eventually I ended up tightening it all the way, the pipe fitting just cut its own threads !
We will see if it leaks when I get the rest of the bits back on and start it up.
Worst case is a new core, easy to do as I have it mounted where the TMIC used to be, just the cost that will sting a bit.
