Engine Type Vin No Compatibility

Engine Type Vin No Compatibility
Hi guys and gals,
Looking to replace the engine in my 2002 JDM Prodrive Special Edition and need a bit of advise on engine compatibility.
My original engine type embossed on the vin plate is : EJ207DW4CR
and the engine i am looking at has the vin : EJ207DW3CR.
The only difference between them is the 3 and 4.
Does anyone know what this difference is if there is any ??
And if compatible what other work will need to be conducted to ensure of no problems.
