Default Servicing

**** my life, just been quoted £600 plus for a 6 year service on my Tribeca!
and thats not even including the air con system as I had that flushed out last year.
Anyone know where in N Yorkshire I can get it done cheaper, or failing that, can give me a complete idiot guide on how to do it myself (I am the complete idiot, not mechanicaly minded at all!)

Thanks

If your service includes the engine belt, Diff oil, Gearbox oil, engine oil, plugs... oh and brake line fluid

600, thats about right ent it?

In all honesty, just take it to a local garage that you trust... Subarus are really not that complicated - sure a specialist is great for diagnosing stuff but for everyday stuff like oil changes, there's nothing any more challenging than any other car.

Perfectly possible to do the servicing yourself, but without the service schedule, I can't tell you what needs doing besides the usual oil and filter changes (am guessing it would probably need coolant and brake fluid changes too though as those tend to be on a 2 yearly cycle).

Cambelt should have been done last year if the Tribeca follows the normal Subaru 5 yearly / 50k mile regime... though if it's on a 6 year / 60k regime, then yes, £600 doesn't seem too bad assuming that includes the belt and new tensioner.

...and thinking about it, the gearbox/diff oil schedule is every 30k mile IIRC(?). So yes, £600 is not too bad if it includes everything mentioned above.

I paid £580 last month to have Subaru service my car to keep the stamps up, included plugs, diff, box, engine oil, fuel filter, air filter, panel filter, coolant, brake fluid change in my opinion that was a good price!

I did all these to mine few months ago and it cost £140 for all the parts and took me a day. Least if you did it then you know it's been done

Did you sign the service book yourself? I was going to get mine services at a garage just to keep the service book looking good but my dad said just sign it myself, to be honest id rather do the service myself as I will probably put a lot more care into it!
How common/acceptable is it to sign the service book yourself?

I can understand that it's cheaper to do your self, on my old car I used to track a lot I was changing the oils about every month, just thought with the scoob I can't be bothered anymore, just had the money so I just got it done

Dont know where you are in North Yorkshire but if not too far get yourself to HDC Subaru. They make dealers look like con artists. By far the best and cheapest option for any Subaru...well any car for that matter. Their website is nothing special but itll give you a phone number.

No Didn't do the book, I just kept all my receipts and paper work, a stamp doesn't mean anything, lot are faked added after, all the receipts have date on them, no plans to sell the car so it's all for my own peace of mind, I keep the receipts for everything

+1

Big book of receipts is much better proof of a cars service history than a few stamps in a lot of cases. In most cases it's pretty easy to spot if a car had been looked after too.

I agree, if I was buying a car I'd much rather a folder of receipts than a few stamps in a book

Tribeca doesn't use a timing belt, its a chain driven flat 6 engine.

the 6yr service is as follows.

Replace engine oil & filter
Replace engine coolant
Replace 6 spark Plugs
Replace air filter
Replace Brake Fluid & bleed system
Replace Front Differential Oil
Replace Rear Differential Oil
Replace Auto Trans Oil & Filter
Inspect Valve Clearances (Adjustment @ Extra Cost)
Inspection Of vehicle component's (I.E Brakes/Fuel Lines/Suspension/Wheels & Tyres)

£400 for parts alone looking at the quotation system, This is what most of the dealers go by sadly and think this is acceptable
3 hrs of labour very roughly. Plus the governments cut ontop

Yes, going by that lot, £600 isn't too bad.
