Default WRX V-Limited MPG

Hi all. i have a 96 wrx v-limitted. brought the car back in feb. The last owner has put a fmic on and v4 ecu. the car is running really rich and only getting 8-10 mpg driving carefully. Freinds following say its stinks of fuel coming out the exhaust.
i had a wrx RA and that was much much better on fuel.
Any ideas that i can try to get the v-limited running better and better mpg?
cheers

I would get it remapped as soon as possible, that mpg and running that rich means the engine will only end in a sad ending

Would this be caused by faulty lambda sensor?
