Default WRX engine swap into UK 2000 - ECU?

Hi folks.

I recently bought a 97 UK 2000 turbo.

On the list of "mods" it has a replacement WRX engine fitted.

The car takes ages to start from cold, and when it does it stinks of fuel and smokes a little. (Black smoke)

It is also underpowered, with the boost tailing off to 10 psi after about 4K rpm

Does the WRX engine need a WRX ECU to run it properly?

I have no idea if the turbo came with the new engine, or if it is a UK 2000 turbo, there's no metal plate on it to identify it, lol.

So I have a few problems with the car, but I don't care, I'm just exstatic to be back in a Scooby again :-)

How do you know it's a WRX engine?

Do you have any pics, it would be easier for us to help if we had pics.

Just looked through the list of receipts and I think the previous owner was talking bull.

He said it had a replecement WRX engine, but all I can find is a replacement oil pan, from "WRX spares", so it's probably not even a different engine.

Don't you just hate LIARS!!

Now I need to start another thread, lol.
