Want to up grade to brembos BUT think 450 for STI brembo's is a joke. The only reason for the huge price is that there is a market for it. I could buy second hand brembos or AP's that fit other cars many of which cost significantly more than Subaru for half the price. The 406 4 pot brembos go for £170!

Can anyone tell me what other upgrade brakes rather than the STI Brembo's will fit a 2003 WRX with subaru 4 pots.

 

Ksports are ok, are you sure 406 brembos are the same size as sti ones??
I thought the 406 ones were a 288 mm disc , sti brembos are bigger

 

The standard 4 pot callipers are pretty good, so a lot of people (myself included) have been happy with the Godspeed big brake conversion, which uses the standard callipers but a much bigger, 335mm disc. Provided the callipers can provide sufficient clamping force it's the size of the disc that adds stopping power. The kit costs £550, but that includes bluestuff pads I think. They do work very well:

I think you'll find that the bolt holes on other Brembos don't line up so you will have to have plates made which if grief & expense. Iv heard of Porsche ones being used but not sure if they are a straight fit & I don't think they will be cheap.

 

I think brembos is your cheapest option mate.
£400 is the good buy price, any cheaper and that's a bargain.
Emma think he was just referring to the price diffrence for other cars, not buying them.

 

Alcons are also good,but not cheap though.
Good pads and discs will make a great difference too

You can get big 6 pot brembo brakes from a big vw jeep ect the same as on the RA-R for about £500, thats my plan along with making my own bracket.

The Subaru brembo will more than likely be bigger than the 406. But for £170 you can't complain.

Ive got front and back brembos on display in my house on a solid oak stand, people can't get over the size of the front calipers lol

 

Another problem with brembos on a wrx is the wheels won't clear the calipers so new wheels will be required if you still have standard wrx wheels fitted.

 

As part of your furniture, or are they just sitting there? If the former, I'd like to see that.

As for the OP. You can get non Subaru brembo's, in red, called Gran Turismo's. They are 330mm, rather than the STi 326mm, but the wheel fitment is much, much better. Usually less than 400 quid too.

 

Really enjoyed reading the replies. The standard 4 pots are ok. I run blue stuff pads and only really get brake fade after alot of abuse. However I recently drove a brand new 370 z and loved the rear wheel lairyness but was blown away by the stopping power. It was awesome. Getting Andy Forrest stage 2 remap on the 19th and thus think with 320 bhp I need to give some serious thought to stopping.

I've experienced that the oe 4 pots aren't up to the job when abused, as you said you had fade on your blues, I had the same problem with blues with 335 2 piece discs. The calipers can't hadle the heat temps when I thrashed it very hard, but cooled down quick due to the big discs.
I'm now running brembos with carborn Lorraine rc6 pads and are Absolutley awesome, just been to Cadwell and did 8-10 lap sessions and no fade. Amazing pads

 

Brembos from other vehicles may sound cheap but the time they have been modded brackets and spacers done your braking is a bit of a compromise.I went down this road last year then came to a point it was cheaper to buy second hand Brembos,Godspeed 2 piece slotted rotors Carbotech xp8 pads,result awesome.There are a few cheaper pad options around so you get what you pay for.£1350 inc stainless hoses

 

£400 for a set of brembos. price up a set of APs or aftermarket brembos with a big set of discs to make you feel better. 400 quid is a good price.
