Question What engine oil for a 2005 WRX PPP ? Confused.

Hey,

Doing some work on the 2005 WRX PPP Scooby at the mo, it needs an oil change. Ive got the filter, just need the oil.

Im a bit confused with what is required. I read about people using different grades.

Ive read the manual and it says it recommends 5W-30 for the turbo model, why do people use different oil from the manual?

We dont really live in an 'extreme hot or cold weather country' so what oil grade and brand do people use here?

Cheers!

5w40 or a 10w40, fully synth for either or semi synth for the 10w40.

Thanks for the reply, can I ask why not use 5W-30 as per the manual?

You could if you wanted to, but it has to be fully synthetic only, not semi synthetic, but its a bit frowned upon due to the fact that the earlier classic engines came with a warning about using 5w30 oils, so most stick with a good 5w40 or 10w40, going above these really isnt recommended unless the car is tracked, and a 10w60 definately isnt suitable for a standard/near standard subaru engine (you would need alot of heat to get that tar moving round the engine properly and not cause you drag or hot spots as its flow rate isnt good).
