Default Electrical Power Issues

Hi all,

Just a quick question for those of you who (unlike me) know how cars work...

I was cleaning the car (2005 WRX) on Monday and my stupid fat head must have hit the indicator stalk into the up / indicate right position. The car spent two days unused with the stalk in this position and failed to start last night (I presume because the stalk has left a side light on or something).

It had enough charge to set the alarm off and various other electrical functions, but not enough to turn the engine over.

I jump started the car this morning (from my father-in-law's car), let it warm up for 5 mins, took it on a 3 mile spin and then left it running on the drive for about 15 minutes. When I turned it off it would not restart.

Questions are therefore:

1) Could the indicator stalk being left in the up position be the cause of this issue;

2) Is the amount of time I ran the car enough to recharge a totally flat battery; and

3) Do I therefore need a new battery?

thanks

JackieBoy

1) Unlikely: have you looked to see if it DOES leave a sidelight on?

2)Not really, given that you'd tried to start the car with it..........

3) Possibly, but your best bet is a decent place that sells batteries, or an auto-electrician, who will test it and tell you immediately.
