Rod knock??
Hello everyone, I havent posted much i know but I could do with abit of advice if anyone can help please?
I think my new 05 wrx's engine is fubard it has a very loud metalic knocking when under load in and out of gear. Video Below

What do you guys think? After watching a few videos on youtube It sounds alot like rod knock but then i've also read it could be a heat shield somewhere.
Worst case scenario whats a rough estimate on a engine recon cost and would the fact it's a parallel import be a problem in terms of parts and stuff. I've tried ringing API but there closed today

I thought it was a parallel import but now i'm thinking it could be JDM my vin starts with JF1GDA J meaning Japan? and the model number is GDAEK8D same as a uk300. Strange because it came from a Subaru dealer in Cyprus 11/04 and registered new in the uk by subaru in swindon 03/05 :confused
Hi mate. Unfortunately it does sound like a big end bearing has gone. I wouldnt start it again if i was you. If its in the very early stages then sometimes you can reuse the crank shaft. If not then it adds quite a bit on the rebuild cost.
Have a look here... https://www.scoobynet.com/trader-ann...0-inc-vat.html We can do the full rebuild for £1,500, or send us your short motor & we can do it for £995 plus postage.
If you wanted to consider building a stronger engine to take big power we can do that too- we do a nice Cosworth 2.2 Stroker which would cost £3445 all in!!!
