Default High miles blob - how far can i push it?

ive got a 2003 blob WRX with 130k miles on the clock, the engines done 80k (wasreplaced by genuine subaru dealership at 50k),

i would like a bit more power, 300 ish (310 max), so looking at a vf35 withsupporting bits, but not looking for silly power again, just nice power, i knowthe td04 can make high 280's but done that before and didnt like the way itdrove, the vf35 was lovely to drive, so would like that setup on this car.

my question is given that the eng should be ok having done 80k, will the boxbe compromised having 130k of use, any idea how much power i can safely putthrough the box at this mileage?

i am aware that how the car has been driven before i bought it is a factor, and hence is an unknown variable, so please take this into account and give mea rough idea if you can.

Cheers.

I can't help specifically with your model year but on my last Impreza (My99 UK turbo), the gearbox blew up down Tesco @ 6.30 in the morning, on standard power at 135,000 miles (engine was only 65,000). Not a great feeling in honesty, so I'd budget for either...
a. A Gearbox rebuild
b. Replacement 'drop in' standard box (second hand)
c. A stronger replacement (like 6 speed) incase you want more power

HTH

Andy

P.S. I used API for my 'box rebuild 5 years ago and they were spot on.

Merlin my 1st classic I had ,that you saw had 135,000 on the clock and still made 316 bhp 317 lb/ft Current car has been running 330 for nearly 2 yrs and after the last map tweak is running even more torque than before & box still in one piece.

the question towards the box is like asking when will the world end lol nobody can predict .

my advice would be as long as brakes/shocks/springs/all suspension rubbers are all in A1 condition.
get the fuel pump changed
plugs filters etc
get the vf35 get it mapped but ask the mapper to keep the torque down
and keep 500 quid aside for a nice low mileage 03-05 5 speed box

i agree mate, which is why i asked for a rough idea, i will have to check the pump, but assume it has been changed as i have the prodrive pack fitted (oh no not again) plugs filters oil and box oil disks and pads are all new sti suspension is perfect with all new whiteline bits underneath

so just need the vf35 and im rocking

drop some pink injectors in too so you have headroom to play with.

if you have no history of the pump or its getting on now change it for an uprated hrc one .

as far as the other bits looks like you have it covered.

led to believe around 295-310 in realistic terms ,but take into account the mileage on your injectors already.

Merlin i believe your car has 420cc injectors mate,so as above. 99/00 classics have 440cc injectors and max out around 330 335 iirc.

You should have kept your wrx and just put a 6 speed box in .Pretty sure that car would still be running ok and would have returned a healthy 22 - 25 mpg .We live & learn - or some of us do lol.

take into account mileage plus 10 year old injectors running close there limit is asking for further trouble in my opinion .

Dave set yourself a target and dont go chasing numbers,as you've had the 400+bhp monster before , and it was not practical.Your old car was capable of running down to the shops everyday, but could still put a smile on your face when you wanted to go mental on a B road blast.
320 +bhp in a blobeye aint gonna be slow, but it will be practical, affordable & enjoyable imho.
p.s will spk soon mate ,something interesting to think about for the summer

Dead easy one to sort out mate:
Holiday - A weekend in Skeggy - sorted
New car - Buy her one of these ,so you dont need to worry about a lift ,for when 2nd gear lets go again.

Skeggy... hum, could be poss. i recon, if i apply $hit loads of alcohol i might just get away with it.

Not liking your 2nd scooby idea though mate, cos that transit will only hold one at a time
