Removing excess metal from track car.
I'm intending removing some excess metal from my bugeye this weekend.
Obviousbolt stuff like jack bracket and spare wheel bracket will be going.
Has anyone removed the rear parcel shelf ? (it looks like a few kgs) , the roll cage is bracing that area now.
Also there is a curved sheet inside the boot area (inside wing close to fuel filler area) that look surplus to requirements.
Am hoping to find out about GRP doors before butchering the originals!
Not sure what to cut it out with , air saw or may try to get hold of a plasma cutter.
Any advice or previous experience of this gratefully welcome.

I'd be a bit weary of the parcel shelf. Iirc, it attaches close to the rear screen, right? If yes, you might get extra flex there and crack the screen.
Boot floor can be reworked quite a bit - get rid of the whole spare wheel well.
Doors have a lot of metal on the inside skin, but removing it means losing glass windows and reworking the door handle mechanism. I'm planning on attaching something directly to the door locking mechanism on mine.
Boot lid inner skin maybe, depending on how heavy your spoiler is (and if it generates any significant downforce).
Jack attachment point in boot + associated panels.
Plasma cutter makes job easier and faster, but leaves a bit of a cruddy finish which probably should be cleaned up before painting etc.
Do you need a boot / petrol tank lock? Could remove the whole mechanism from drivers seat back and save a kg maybe. Replace boot lock with rally style springs.
