Default Steering feeling light and skitish 2003 STI

Hi

First post for a while

I have a problem with the steering on my 2003 STI in that it feels very light and not at all good

I noticed this about 6 months ago and the power steering belt started to squeal at approx the same time.

I have now got the belt adjusted so that it does not squeal any more and the steering is still very light as though you are turning on ice. It does not give you any confidence turning into corners.

I have 4 new tyres on and have checked pressures so no problems there and car has no mods

Has anyone any ideas what could be causing this

Do I need to replace the belt?

It seems as though the power steering is working hard like it should at slow speeds even when you are driving faster -could it be a problem with how this works

I am afraid I am not very mechanical so any suggestions would be helpful

I have had the steering looked at when the belt was tightened and all bushes etc are fine

Thanks

Bryn
