Default Boost issues (wrx bugeye 2002)

Hi ,

I just bought a 2002 wrx , drives great no leaks etc etc

Only this boostissue:

So when i put the pedal to the metal, my boost goes up down, up , down , up etc etc

Car was full stock when bought , engine's running great. Put a new maf sensor & boostsolenoid and cleaned the hoses.

Can you guys give me some things i can check. Are there f.e 'familiar' places to check for a boostleak etc etc

Or maybe fuelpump? I dunno /°__°/ cheers!

Cheers!

Do you mean it doesn't hold boost under load ?

Are you referring to a boost gauge or does the car physically hold back , release, hold back ??

There is a restrictor pill in one of those hoses you cleaned. If you have lost it or it is not there then this may be the problem

As above sounds like it's related to the restrictor pill.

I had some work done and they'd replaced the pipes with STI ones. I had the exact same symptoms and it was confirmed when I plugged in my Tactrix capable and read some data.

Car was basically overboosting and the ECU was pulling boost and when building up again through the rev range it'd kick in again (hence the hesitation)

I had the same problem when I first purchased my scoob. Filled with v-power and it hesitated up the rev range. So tried momentum and it disappeared!

I'm not referring to a boostgauge, but you can feel it , (and hear it trough the airfilter, tubbie spools up and down , power goes up and down. The car doesnt really 'hold back' but it's more like won't go turbo, flat spot, turbo flat spot , like that.

I will have a look at the restrictor pill ,and many thx already! i'll post if it was that so we could help for people who have the prob in the future! cheers!

Edit: can i order these restrictor pills somewhere?! cheers!

Import car parts sell the restrictor pills.

Probably worth giving the boost control solenoid a clean too

You can get the pills from Subaru I beleive. Also when you floor it does the rev counter increase then drop? It could be the clutch is starting to slip.

The revs keep increasing but sometimes it has flat spots, but not like the clutch is running out, it's more like loss of power. I can hear it from the air intake swooshing en then dropping, etc etc
